EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Chris Ferrara: Shaping the Future of Firefighting with US Fire Pump

As industrial operations expand and emergency risks grow more complex, traditional firefighting methods and equipment are no longer enough. Responding to today’s large-scale disasters requires innovation, speed, and superior performance. At the forefront of that evolution is Chris Ferrara, President and Owner of US Fire Pump, who is leading the charge to revolutionize how fire departments respond to the world’s toughest emergencies.

From Pipe Fitter to Firefighting Pioneer

Chris Ferrara’s journey began in the petrochemical industry, where he worked as a pipe fitter while volunteering with the Central Volunteer Fire Department in rural Louisiana. When the department lacked funding for a water tender, Chris took matters into his own hands—literally. He used his technical skills to build his first fire truck, marking the beginning of a career that would transform the fire service.

That first truck led to the founding of Ferrara Fire Apparatus, a company that would go on to build more than 6,000 fire trucks in service across the globe over the next three decades. But Chris wasn’t done innovating.

A Lifelong Firefighter with Real-World Impact

Throughout his career, Chris has been deeply involved in hands-on emergency response. He was among the team that shut down the last open valve during the Exxon refinery explosion in Baton Rouge in 1989, a pivotal moment in Louisiana’s firefighting history. More recently, he led the extinguishment of a massive 50-acre, 118-foot tall landfill fire that had burned for over a decade. Where others had failed, Chris succeeded—putting the fire out in just three months.

Building the Future with US Fire Pump

In 2014, Chris founded US Fire Pump to take firefighting capabilities to the next level. With a mission to protect lives, limit property damage, and equip first responders with the most advanced tools, Chris assembled a team to design and manufacture high-performance emergency response equipment that far exceeds industry standards.

The company’s High Velocity Pump, capable of flowing over 10,000 gallons per minute, earned a Guinness World Record for the highest pumping capacity fire truck—a testament to the bold innovation US Fire Pump is known for.

Innovation That Saves Lives

Under Chris Ferrara’s leadership, US Fire Pump continues to push the limits of what’s possible in fire suppression and emergency response. With groundbreaking technology, strategic vision, and decades of field-tested experience, Chris is reshaping the firefighting industry—proving that with the right tools and mindset, even the most extreme emergencies can be controlled.

The future of firefighting is here—and it’s powered by US Fire Pump.
